Alfa Romeo says goodbye to its beautiful V6 engines

Alfa Romeo, through its North American division head Larry Dominique, is bidding farewell to the 2.9-liter V6 engine derived from Ferrari that currently powers the Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models, producing 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Transitioning to electric

In a message posted on LinkedIn, Dominique revealed that 2024 will be the last year for the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models with internal combustion engines, as the company is transitioning to electrification. Specifically, orders will close at the end of April 2024 for the U.S. and Canada, with production scheduled to end in June 2024 at the Cassino plant in Italy.

A sad but expected development

For 2024, Alfa Romeo is offering the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Carbon Editions, limited to 130 units and exclusive to North America. “This is the final chance to own a Quadrifoglio equipped solely with combustion engine technology as we continue our transformation towards an electrified future, but it is not the end of the story,” Dominique wrote on the platform.

A new mission for the four-leaf clover

The new chapter of this journey includes the unveiling of an electric Giulia replacing the current model with much more power. However, for those who appreciated the Giulia’s handling and the adrenaline-inducing driving experience, impressive numbers may no longer hold the same appeal. The same goes for the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, with its dynamic driving capabilities impressing all who have tried it. While we are hopeful that Stellantis will do justice to the Italian manufacturer and its four-leaf clover, nothing is guaranteed, especially when it comes to replacing iconic models with a Ferrari engine with electric alternatives.

Displeased enthusiasts

Despite dissatisfaction from enthusiasts and customers, Alfa Romeo is committed to transitioning to electric power by 2027, with new launches set to begin in 2025. This is disappointing news for fans.
