Dans une industrie o\u00f9 les camionnettes pleine grandeur d\u00e9passent facilement les 60 000 $, la proposition appara\u00eet presque anachronique. Pourtant, c&#8217;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment cette simplicit\u00e9 qui constitue l&#8217;argument de vente principal de REO.<\/p>\n<h3>Un nom charg\u00e9 d&#8217;histoire<\/h3>\n<p>\nLes amateurs d&#8217;histoire automobile reconna\u00eetront peut-\u00eatre le nom REO. La marque originale a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e par Ransom E. Olds, cr\u00e9ateur d&#8217;Oldsmobile, apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9part de cette entreprise au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle. REO est notamment reconnue pour avoir produit l&#8217;un des premiers v\u00e9ritables camions l\u00e9gers de l&#8217;histoire, le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00ab Speedwagon \u00bb, dont le groupe rock am\u00e9ricain REO Speedwagon a d&#8217;ailleurs emprunt\u00e9 le nom. La nouvelle soci\u00e9t\u00e9 n&#8217;a toutefois aucun lien direct avec le constructeur historique, mais elle entend exploiter cet h\u00e9ritage en proposant des v\u00e9hicules utilitaires simples et robustes.<\/p>\n<h3>Le T4X : un petit camion aux grandes ambitions<\/h3>\n<p>\nLe premier mod\u00e8le annonc\u00e9 porte le nom de T4X. Selon les informations publi\u00e9es par l&#8217;entreprise, il s&#8217;agira d&#8217;une camionnette \u00e0 deux portes dot\u00e9e d&#8217;une caisse ouverte avec panneaux rabattables. Sa longueur totale atteindrait environ 4,57 m\u00e8tres, soit \u00e0 peine moins qu&#8217;une Toyota Corolla moderne. En d&#8217;autres mots, ses dimensions rappelleraient les compactes camionnettes nord-am\u00e9ricaines des ann\u00e9es 1980, comme la Chevrolet S-10. Malgr\u00e9 son gabarit modeste, REO vise des capacit\u00e9s de travail impressionnantes avec une charge utile de 2 500 lb (1 134 kg), un e capacit\u00e9 de remorquage de 4 500 lb (2 041 kg). Son poids \u00e0 vide sera inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 2 tonnes avec un moteur 4 cylindres et un rouage int\u00e9gral. Si ces objectifs sont atteints, le T4X offrirait un rapport capacit\u00e9-prix pratiquement inexistant sur le march\u00e9 actuel.<\/p>\n<h3>Une famille compl\u00e8te de v\u00e9hicules<\/h3>\n<p>\nREO ne compte pas s&#8217;arr\u00eater \u00e0 une seule camionnette. La jeune entreprise pr\u00e9voit \u00e9galement\u00a0 le REO T4C, une version \u00e0 cabine multiplace \u00e0 quatre portes affich\u00e9e \u00e0 environ 25 000 $ US. Il y aurait aussi le REO S4C qui est un utilitaire sport \u00e0 quatre portes d\u00e9riv\u00e9 de la plateforme du camion, dont le prix cible est fix\u00e9 \u00e0 28 500 $ US. Les illustrations publi\u00e9es jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent montrent des silhouettes carr\u00e9es et utilitaires qui rappellent les v\u00e9hicules con\u00e7us avant l&#8217;\u00e8re des \u00e9crans g\u00e9ants, des poign\u00e9es r\u00e9tractables et des lignes de carrosserie complexes.<\/p>\n<h3>Un projet encore loin de la production<\/h3>\n<p>\nMalgr\u00e9 l&#8217;enthousiasme suscit\u00e9 par ces annonces, il faut demeurer prudent. Selon l&#8217;\u00e9ch\u00e9ancier publi\u00e9 par REO Trucks, la pr\u00e9sentation du design d\u00e9finitif et de la gamme compl\u00e8te devrait avoir lieu plus tard cette ann\u00e9e. Les premi\u00e8res livraisons ne sont toutefois pas attendues avant la fin de 2028 ou le d\u00e9but de 2029. Les consommateurs int\u00e9ress\u00e9s peuvent r\u00e9server leur place avec un d\u00e9p\u00f4t remboursable de 25 $ US. L&#8217;entreprise affirme \u00e9galement qu&#8217;elle vendra directement aux clients sans passer par un r\u00e9seau traditionnel de concessionnaires.<\/p>\n<h3>Un pari audacieux<\/h3>\n<p>\nLe march\u00e9 automobile regorge de jeunes entreprises qui ont promis des v\u00e9hicules r\u00e9volutionnaires avant de repousser leurs \u00e9ch\u00e9ances \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, voire de dispara\u00eetre compl\u00e8tement. REO devra donc d\u00e9montrer sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 transformer son ambitieux projet en produit commercial viable. Cela dit, dans un contexte o\u00f9 les camionnettes deviennent toujours plus imposantes, plus luxueuses et plus co\u00fbteuses, l&#8217;id\u00e9e d&#8217;un petit camion \u00e0 essence simple, robuste et abordable pourrait s\u00e9duire de nombreux acheteurs.
