Apr\u00e8s le fiasco Northvolt, c\u2019est maintenant General Motors (GM) et son partenaire sud-cor\u00e9en Posco Future M qui annoncent la suspension de la deuxi\u00e8me phase de leur projet commun d\u2019usine de mat\u00e9riaux pour batteries, \u00e9valu\u00e9e \u00e0 plus d\u2019un milliard de dollars.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1019\" data-end=\"1084\">Une pause strat\u00e9gique en raison du ralentissement du march\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1383\">Le complexe Ultium CAM, actuellement en construction \u00e0 B\u00e9cancour, doit toujours commencer la production de mat\u00e9riaux actifs de cathode pour batteries \u00e9lectriques en 2026. Mais contrairement au plan initial, GM et Posco ne passeront pas imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 la phase d\u2019expansion du projet. \u00ab En raison de l\u2019\u00e9volution du march\u00e9, GM et ses partenaires mettront sur pause la deuxi\u00e8me phase du projet \u00bb, a indiqu\u00e9 Marie Binette, porte-parole de GM Canada, dans un courriel cit\u00e9 par Radio-Canada.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1659\">Un projet de plus d\u2019un milliard mis sur la glace<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"2008\">L\u2019usine, dont la construction avait d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 2022, repr\u00e9sentait un investissement initial de 600 millions de dollars canadiens. L\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, GM et Posco avaient annonc\u00e9 une expansion int\u00e9gr\u00e9e pour inclure une usine de mat\u00e9riaux pr\u00e9curseurs, portant la valeur totale du projet \u00e0 plus d\u2019un milliard de dollars am\u00e9ricains. Cette mise sur pause a \u00e9galement des r\u00e9percussions sur d\u2019autres projets dans la r\u00e9gion, notamment la future usine de sulfate de nickel que devait construire Vale Base Metals, partenaire de GM.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2223\" data-end=\"2282\">Vale annule \u00e0 son tour son usine de sulfate de nickel<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2284\" data-end=\"2501\">Le 16 octobre, Vale a confirm\u00e9 avoir annul\u00e9 son projet de 325 millions $\u00a0\u00e0 B\u00e9cancour. L\u2019entreprise mini\u00e8re avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 franchi plusieurs \u00e9tapes de planification, mais n\u2019avait pas encore d\u00e9but\u00e9 la construction. \u00ab GM n\u2019aura pas besoin de nickel sulfate au Qu\u00e9bec pour l\u2019instant \u00bb, a pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 Stuart Weinberg, porte-parole de Vale, ajoutant que la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 continue de travailler \u00e0 fournir du nickel canadien \u00e0 GM.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2721\" data-end=\"2782\">Une s\u00e9rie de revers pour la fili\u00e8re batterie qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2784\" data-end=\"2895\">Ces reculs successifs s\u2019ajoutent \u00e0 une s\u00e9rie de contretemps majeurs pour la strat\u00e9gie batterie du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2899\" data-end=\"3051\">En juin 2024, Ford a suspendu les travaux d\u2019une usine de mat\u00e9riaux cathodiques \u00e0 B\u00e9cancour, un projet conjoint \u00e9valu\u00e9 \u00e0 1,2 milliard $. Sur la rive-sud de Montr\u00e9al, le\u00a0m\u00e9ga-projet Northvolt de 7 milliards $\u00a0a officiellement \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9 en septembre 2025, \u00e0 la suite de la faillite du groupe su\u00e9dois.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3230\" data-end=\"3282\">Qu\u00e9bec mise toujours sur la reprise du secteur<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3284\" data-end=\"3541\">La ministre de l\u2019\u00c9conomie, Christine Fr\u00e9chette, se veut toutefois rassurante. Elle parle d\u2019un ralentissement global du d\u00e9veloppement de la cha\u00eene d\u2019approvisionnement des batteries, mais affirme que plusieurs projets demeurent actifs au Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3666\" data-end=\"3720\">GM sous pression face \u00e0 la transition \u00e9lectrique<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3722\" data-end=\"3989\">Cette annonce survient alors que GM ralentit sa strat\u00e9gie d\u2019\u00e9lectrification en Am\u00e9rique du Nord. Le 14 octobre, le constructeur a reconnu une charge de 1,6 milliard $ US li\u00e9e \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction de ses ambitions en mati\u00e8re de production de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. GM cite notamment la fin du cr\u00e9dit d\u2019imp\u00f4t f\u00e9d\u00e9ral am\u00e9ricain de 7 500 $ US pour les acheteurs de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en septembre, ainsi que le tarissement du programme canadien de 5 000 $ CA en janvier dernier. Ottawa a promis de le relancer, sans pr\u00e9ciser de date.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"4280\" data-end=\"4333\">Une pause symbolique pour la fili\u00e8re qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4335\" data-end=\"4664\">Avec la mise sur pause de GM et la disparition de Northvolt, B\u00e9cancour perd temporairement son statut de \u201ccapitale canadienne de la batterie\u201d.
