Elle alimente \u00e9galement nos souvenirs, nos moments partag\u00e9s, souvent accompagn\u00e9s d\u2019un bon pique-nique. Mais derri\u00e8re cet \u00e9l\u00e9ment indispensable se cache une longue \u00e9volution technologique.<\/p>\n<h3>Les d\u00e9buts<\/h3>\n<p>\n\u00c0 l\u2019aube de l\u2019automobile, les premiers syst\u00e8mes d\u2019alimentation en essence reposaient sur la gravit\u00e9. Le r\u00e9servoir, plac\u00e9 au-dessus du moteur, permettait au carburant de s&#8217;\u00e9couler naturellement vers le carburateur. Certes, niveau s\u00e9curit\u00e9, on repassera, mais \u00e7a fonctionnait ! Cadillac et d&#8217;autres pionniers de l&#8217;\u00e9poque ont test\u00e9 des syst\u00e8mes de gravit\u00e9 avec succ\u00e8s, bien que ce ne soit pas sans inconv\u00e9nients.<\/p>\n<h3>La pression d&#8217;air : une solution astucieuse<\/h3>\n<p>\nL\u2019une des solutions les plus innovantes fut l\u2019utilisation de la pression d\u2019air. Le r\u00e9servoir, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re du v\u00e9hicule et herm\u00e9tiquement ferm\u00e9, voyait le conducteur actionner une pompe manuelle pour pressuriser le syst\u00e8me. L&#8217;air comprim\u00e9 poussait alors l&#8217;essence vers le moteur. Rapidement, un petit compresseur \u00e0 piston, reli\u00e9 au moteur, prit le relais, assurant une alimentation en carburant sans intervention manuelle continue.<\/p>\n<h3>Utilisation du vide moteur<\/h3>\n<p>\nUn autre syst\u00e8me ing\u00e9nieux utilisait le vide cr\u00e9\u00e9 par le moteur pour aspirer l\u2019essence. Le carburant \u00e9tait stock\u00e9 dans un r\u00e9cipient sous le capot, contr\u00f4l\u00e9 par une flotte, qui r\u00e9gulait le flux d&#8217;essence en fonction de la demande du moteur. Ce syst\u00e8me simple mais efficace d\u00e9pendait cependant d&#8217;une parfaite \u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9. Sinon, c\u2019\u00e9tait la panne assur\u00e9e !<\/p>\n<h3>L\u2019av\u00e8nement de la pompe \u00e0 membrane<\/h3>\n<p>\nFinalement, la pompe \u00e0 membrane, bien plus fiable, simple et \u00e9conomique, a domin\u00e9 pendant une cinquantaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es. Ce m\u00e9canisme a prouv\u00e9 son efficacit\u00e9 avant d\u2019\u00eatre remplac\u00e9 par des pompes \u00e9lectriques avec l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de l\u2019injection. Aujourd\u2019hui, sur nos voitures anciennes, ces pompes m\u00e9caniques restent une valeur s\u00fbre, t\u00e9moins de leur robustesse et de leur long\u00e9vit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Un hommage aux inventeurs<\/h3>\n<p>\nL\u2019\u00e9volution des syst\u00e8mes d\u2019alimentation en essence est fascinante. Des syst\u00e8mes bas\u00e9s sur la gravit\u00e9 aux pompes \u00e9lectriques modernes, chaque \u00e9tape t\u00e9moigne de l\u2019ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9 de ces inventeurs. Ils ont su, avec les moyens du bord, trouver des solutions ing\u00e9nieuses pour alimenter nos moteurs sans l\u2019aide d\u2019un ordinateur.
